01

Who We Are

Walkins (also referred to as "W App", "we", "us", or "our") is a social platform built for college students and young adults. We combine two core experiences: anonymous live community spaces tied to your campus or city, and a social events platform where you can discover, register for, and attend college events with a digital ticket.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use the Walkins mobile application or website (collectively, the "Services"). By using our Services, you agree to the practices described here.

If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use our Services.

02

Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways: directly from you, automatically when you use the app, and from third parties where relevant.

Account & Registration Information

Creating a Walkins account is simple. All we require is:

  • Sign-in via Google or Apple — we receive your email address and name from the provider based on the permissions you grant
  • A username of your choice, which is how you appear on the platform

That's it. We do not require phone numbers, date of birth, or any additional personal details to get started. Any additional profile information (such as a profile photo or bio) is entirely optional and provided at your discretion.

Google Sign-In Apple Sign-In Username Only

Content You Create

When you use Walkins, we collect the content you post, share, or interact with — including text posts, replies, reactions (upvotes, downvotes, likes), images, and direct messages. All posts in community spaces are public within that community. Direct messages are not posted publicly but recipients may share them.

⚠ Never include information in your posts that could identify you, such as your name, roll number, or exact location — even in anonymous spaces.

Events & Ticketing Information

When you register for or attend events via Walkins, we collect:

  • Name and contact details submitted at registration
  • Payment and billing information (processed via PCI-compliant third-party gateways; we do not store raw card data)
  • Ticket type and seat/section preferences
  • Event attendance records and check-in data
  • Any accessibility or special preferences you voluntarily provide

Usage & Behavioral Data

We automatically collect information about how you use the app, including pages viewed, features used, interaction patterns, timestamps, and session duration. This helps us improve the product and personalize your experience.

Device & Technical Information

We collect device identifiers, operating system, browser/app version, IP address, language and timezone settings, and mobile network information. We may use device IDs (e.g., IDFA on iOS) for analytics and to recognize returning users.

Location Information

If you grant location permissions, we collect your device's GPS location to recommend nearby posts, events, and communities. You can revoke this permission at any time through your device settings.

Contacts (Optional)

If you opt in to the "People You May Know" feature, we request access to your device contacts (names and phone numbers) to help surface content from friends and recommend connections. We never expose your identity or your contacts' identities to other users without consent.

03

Anonymous Community Spaces

Walkins includes live, anonymous community feeds tied to your verified college or city. Here's what you should know about how anonymity works on our platform.

🎭

Your identity is hidden from others

Other users and moderators in the app cannot see who posted what. Your posts appear under a pseudonym.

🔍

We can identify you internally

For safety and legal compliance, we retain metadata that can associate a post with the account that created it.

🚔

Law enforcement exceptions

We may disclose identity information to law enforcement if legally compelled or to protect community safety.

🏫

Completely independent of your school

Walkins is not affiliated with, owned by, or connected to any college or educational institution. We will never share your posts, identity, or any activity data with your institution — ever.

College community spaces are accessible to any verified Walkins user who selects their college. We do not verify institutional enrollment — joining a college community is self-selected. Users are responsible for joining the community relevant to them.

04

Events & Ticketing

The Walkins Events platform lets you discover and register for college events. When you register for an event, you fill out a registration form — which may be created by Walkins or by the event organizer. The data you submit is used to manage your attendance, issue your digital ticket, and facilitate entry.

Event Registration Forms

When registering for an event, you may be asked to provide information through a form. This can include:

  • Full name
  • Email address and/or phone number
  • College name, year, or branch (if requested by the organizer)
  • Roll number or student ID (if requested by the organizer)
  • Team name or member details (for team-based events)
  • Dietary preferences, accessibility needs, or other event-specific preferences you choose to provide
  • Any other fields specified by the organizer for that specific event

⚠ Form fields beyond the basics are set by event organizers, not Walkins. Only provide information you are comfortable sharing. You can contact us if you believe a form is requesting unnecessary personal data.

What organizers can see

Event organizers have access to the registration responses of attendees for their events. This is necessary for them to manage attendance, verify entry, and run the event. Each organizer's use of this information is governed by their own practices. Walkins is not responsible for how organizers independently handle data collected through their event forms.

Payments

Paid tickets are processed through PCI-compliant third-party payment processors. Walkins does not store your raw card or banking information. When you provide payment details, you authorize the sharing of that information with our payment partners solely for the purpose of completing your transaction.

Digital Tickets & QR Codes

Upon successful registration, a digital ticket (including a QR code for check-in) is issued to you within the app. Do not share your ticket or QR code with others, as it may be used for unauthorized entry. Walkins is not responsible for lost access due to shared tickets.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:

Service Providers & Vendors

We work with third-party companies to help operate our Services — including payment processors, cloud hosting providers, analytics tools, and customer support platforms. These vendors access only the data needed for their specific function and are contractually required to protect it.

Event Organizers

When you register for an event, relevant registration data (name, contact, ticket type) is shared with the hosting organizer for the purposes of event management and entry. We are not responsible for how organizers independently handle this information.

Legal & Safety Disclosures

We may share your information — including information that could identify you in an anonymous space — when required by law, a court order, or government authority, or when we believe it is necessary to prevent serious harm, protect safety, or enforce our Terms of Use.

Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity, subject to the same privacy protections described here.

With Your Consent

We may share your information in other circumstances where you have explicitly consented.

We may share aggregated, de-identified data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you for research, analytics, or marketing purposes.

07

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

When you delete a post, it is removed from public view but may remain in our backup systems for a limited period for safety and operational reasons. When you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information, except where retention is legally required or necessary for fraud prevention and safety.

Deleted content may also persist in cached or archived pages of third-party services (e.g., search engines). We have no control over that and recommend contacting those services directly.

08

Security

We implement industry-standard security practices — including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews — to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.

However, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that your data will be immune to all threats. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for any activity that occurs under your account.

If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at the address below.
